Installing a VisSim Floating Network License

Prior to installing the VisSim software ensure client systems have write access to the directory on the shared drive into which VisSim will be installed.

1 Server Installation

The software for the VisSim 7.0 Floating Network License must be installed on the server from one of the client systems. Choose a client system and run the VisSim server install (setupVisSim70.exe). If you don't have a CD, you can download install binaries here.
When prompted for an installation directory, replace the ‘C’ in C:\VISSIM70 with the drive letter mapped to the server’s shared drive or, if you don't like drive letters, use \\<server name>\<exported dir>\vissim70. VisSim will require write access to the vissim.lf file and file create access to the root VisSim install directory (vissim70 by default).
When the installation is complete, "VisSim 7.0 – Software" and "VisSim 7.0 – Documentation" program groups appear as either open windows on the desktop or as minimized icons in the system tray.

2 Server Licensing

From the same client system, use the VisSim License Manager to activate the network license in the normal way but be sure the license file path refers to the VisSim install directory on the server from step 1 so that you activate the server license and not the client system.
At this point, the core VisSim Network License is activated, the license keys for the appropriate number of simultaneous users is established, and the first client system is configured. If you have purchased add-on licenses, you must run the VisSim License Manager again and send another license request to obtain add-on license keys.

3 Client Installation

On each remaining client, run the VisSim client setup (setupVisSimClient70.exe - downloadable here). The client install will setup a local work area on the client, and setup menu linkages to the server for the VisSim executables. The install will prompt for both the local install location on the client and the server install location. When prompted for the server’s installation directory, make sure you use the same server path that you used in step 1. An unlimited number of workstations can be set up as potential clients for the VisSim 7.0 Network Server. The VisSim Network License controls the maximum number of simultaneous users. If you wish, you may make an image of the first client install and propagate it to the remaining clients.
